Where we started.

Back in 1977 Mr Chris Kanizi arrived in London with the grand ambition of studying medicine and training as a doctor. Not all dreams work out as planned and instead of learning how to operate on humans he became an expert Fish Surgeon.

We first opened the doors of our traditional British chippy back in 2005. Since then we’ve grown to become a local favourite and a legendary/established part of the Greenwich community.

While we are well known for our friendly service and close relationships with our regulars, the quality of our food has always been our highest priority.

We are very picky about our ingredients and carefully source them from trusted suppliers. The key to our success is very fresh ingredients cooked with all our love and, of course, our secret Golden Chippy recipe.

After years of collecting glowing customer reviews and recommendations we achieved the holy grail - In 2016 The Golden Chippy was voted London’s number one restaurant on TripAdvisor! To take the top spot we beat fine dining establishments such Claridge’s, The Foyer and from there our reputation truly went international.

It makes us incredibly happy to receive regular visitors from all over the globe and share our true British fish and chips experience.
